Spending more time in God’s Word was a goal of mine this year. However, I also wanted my kids to start setting aside time to read and spend time with God. So for Christmas, I ordered them age-appropriate, gender-specific devotionals. Lil man had just turned 8 so I purchased One Minute Devotions for boys and the lil chef would turn 12 in a few months so I found One-minute devotions for girls.
When the kids opened their presents, it wasn’t resounding excitement so I was a little concerned about how they would respond to daily devotional, but I must say that I think they both look forward to it. Before bed each night, we take time to read the message and talk about it or anything that they need to discuss. It’s become a great time to share and I look forward to that precious time. It’s amazing how some of the messages in that little book come at just the right time. Many times, the devotion will coincide with the weekly sermon, or it will be something that the kids or their friends are dealing with, or sometimes I feel like it is directed straight at me! They both have asked on different occasions, “How did the book know?” It’s not the book babe, it’s God and God’s timing is so perfect if we just listen.
So I’m on the hunt for new devotionals for the kids and one for me. I cherish the time and hope that they do as well. Please if you have suggestions, share! I hope we are strengthening the relationship that will last them for eternity.
