Fall Bucket List
Fall is my favorite time of year! I love the weather (except this fall it’s been 90 degrees so far) but it’s Kentucky so it might frost this weekend! I also love fall activities with the family! Being in agriculture all my life, fall also represents the harvest. A time when you have worked all year to bring in a crop or for us, it’s time for new life with fall calving season. If you follow me on FB or IG, you will surely see photos of calves, because it just makes me happy.
As a family, we usually start to wind down and spend more time together. So each year, we have created a Fall Bucket List. Last year were each able to list 3 activities we wanted to participate in and they all made the list! Wow! We worked hard trying to get all those things done! The lender’s list items, were work chores, not much fun. Water to the Barn, yep, many questions last year about that one. We really did need to get water to the barn, but bless his heart! Therefore, we are going to do things a little different this year!
Both my kids like to craft, but I’m not real “crafty”. But I saw an idea and I was like yes, I can make that happen! We painted popsicle sticks in all the fall colors we had! We came up with 12 activities we wanted to do this fall and put them on a stick! Then we found a bucket to house all our fun activities! We will pull them out one by one and be intentional about completing this fall bucket of fun! I hope to be able to capture some of the moments and share them with you!
Top 12 Bucket List Items
1. Play at Just Piddlin Farm–
So lucky to have this great farm so close to us! Activities to keep the kids busy all afternoon. There is a corn pit, corn maze, hay ride, playground, and pumpkin patch to pick your favorite pumpkin.
2. Bake Fall Treats-
My little chef has her own bucket list for fall treats! Follow her on Jenna’s Kitchen to see what she makes! I’m planning on pumpkin treats and sweet potato pies!
3. Hay Bale Trail-
Logan and Todd Counties have a hay bale trail. Businesses and individuals take hay rolls or bales and decorate them for viewing and voting! We have some creative people in this area and it’s so fun to take a drive and see what everyone has created. You can go to Logan County Tourism and Explore Todd County to get a map of the registered bales.
4. Fall fishing-
The weather is cooler and the fish are biting in the fall! Such an enjoyable time on the lake or at the pond. Plus if it’s a good day, FISH FRY
5. Pumpkin carving
This is not my expertise! But the kids and hubs have made some great creations over the years and it’s a great time for them to spend together and get creative
6. Cider run at Jackson’s Orchard!
Local cider is a for sure fall treat and we will be certain to stock up for all our fall recipes and get-togethers! While we are there we will play in the playground and pick up some apples!
7. Fall Craft
I kinda wish I could count the fall bucket list sticks as the craft project, but my kids wouldn’t stand for that! So it will be either a fall canvas painting, some leaf art or maybe some rock painting!
8. Bonfire & Smores-
Cooler temperatures bring the need for a bonfire! While the fire is roaring, can’t miss the opportunity to roast some hot dogs and smores!
9. Road Trip-
Fall Break is a perfect time for a road trip! We are lucky enough to get 2 weeks out of school, so that definitely warrants a road trip!
10. Fall Decorations-
Mums, pumpkins, fall décor…oh my! Some years we have skipped the decorations and there is just something missing! The kids enjoy decorating and it’s a great opportunity to teach basic decorating principles!
11. Fall Game Night-
We love playing games and having a fun family night filled with games and food! Some of our favorites: Wii Party, Heads Up, Brain Games, Clue, Monopoly, and Scrabble!
12. Fall Movie Night-
We do not go to the theater often, but curling up on the couch and waiting family movies are a ton of fun! Bring on the Pizza and Fall flavored popcorn!
Some honorable mentions that I hope we get to make are:
Ruby Branch Farms-They have fun games, gorgeous mums, and other fall décor! They are a young couple farming together and I would love to support them and they are in the next county over!
Chaney’s Dairy Barn-They have a great playground, jumping pillow, and uhhh…..ice cream! Yum.
Lost River Cave-From the Nature Explore playground, rock sluice, and all the trails you can walk down to the cave and around the park! Great way to enjoy fall color!
Does your family do a fall bucket list! I would love to hear or see your ideas!
